The Team

Just like how one might be less likely to read a book that's written by an author he/she does not know about, we are jumpstarting our blog by getting you to know more about the team of writers behind this blog who are working hard day-by-day to have their stories told!

TRAVIS | EDITOR

Having realised that life is too short to be taken seriously, Travis lives on the lighter side of life and enjoys writing to entertain. Entering his final year in Mass Communication and in the preliminary stages of severe quarter-life crisis, he also has an unhealthy obsession with J-Pop after stumbling upon his mother's Japanese music collection when he was 8, as well as a resistance to people telling him to get a haircut for almost two years now.

After exposing himself to the Japanese culture for more than half of his life, Travis is always amazed by the Japanese's innovation in creating products like potato-peeling gloves and the existence of Daiso. He also believes Japan has one of the world's strongest and most unique cultures, which would explain why he is always trying to delve further into understanding how its people live their lives so differently from others.

JACINTH | ADMIN

Jacinth’s super ambitious, knows what she wants, and laughs so hard at simple things that she cries! She’s really passionate about advertising and marketing, and hopes to set up her own company in the future.  Jacinth is like the average geek in your class that reads newspapers, studies for exams at least 2 months earlier, and very down-to-earth!

Being in Japan for the first time, she likes that the people are very friendly and polite, and she wants to learn more words than the two that she know now: “Arigato” and “konnichiwa!”

BRYAN | WRITER

Hey everyone! I'm Bryan Chua from Mass Communication Year 1! I'm insanely passionate about anything related to foreign languages, because it allows people to communicate with each other.

To me, communication is beautiful because it happens between two or more people irregardless of race or background, or even status. I love Japanese cars, as well as anything Korean! Street fashion is also a style that is attractive to me! In addition to those, anything related to technology, Asian cuisine, photography & writing are also some things that I like to do or am interested in!

My ambition is to become a Korean-Japanese Interpreter. Sports that I love to engage in are bowling, basketball, and badminton! I love talking to people because I find it very intriguing that everyone has their own life story and it is that that makes someone, someone! Label me "kaypoh" or nosy, but I appreciate these life stories.

JERALD | WRITER

A fun loving and spontaneous character, Jerald is always happy to let people view the world through his eyes. One of the smallest things that can brighten up his day is probably good food; and yes, Japan has a lot of that.

As an avid social media user, he reads and learns a lot about different cultures online. This leads to a curious mind to explore the world and its various different cultures. Of course, Japan has been a trip that he has been looking forward to due to its rich and sophisticated culture. He hopes to some day fulfill the dream of traveling the world and having infinite tales to tell.

STEFANIE | WRITER

A Year 1 Mass Communication student, Stefanie is a petite little creature who would like to think she’s got a lot of spunk, a fondness for all things cute, cuddly and quaint, as well as a passion for writing, the geeky kid in your stereotypical classroom. Largely motivated by her delusions of grandeur and her stomach, Stefanie enjoys good food and is always on the lookout for great deals.

Her hobbies include reading, writing, scrapbooking, and plotting world domination. On her maiden voyage to Tokyo, she’s looking forward to, obviously, the delicious variety of food in Japan, as well as the opportunity to experience a culture and a city that is somehow both similar and yet different to her own.

VERLYNN | WRITER

Verlynn is a year 1 Mass Communication student with much interest in writing. Since she started blogging in 2009, she has realized that arguments without critical thinking and bare facts will never work. In addition, photos and words will always work best together for a logical and effective article to be written. The drive to explore and reveal what a part of her firmly believes in is her main goal of writing.

With that being said, Japan definitely holds a special place in her heart, simply because of the wonderful people and the rich culture. She has learnt countless lessons from various mediums of exposure to Japan, and one lesson that she has started to live by is the virtue of patience and good mannerism.
